Tour for Humanity Bus Visits MCES

The Tour for Humanity, organized by the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, was a very unique and educational experience. The state of the art mobile classroom, and it’s facilitator taught us about the atrocities of the Holocaust and why we must ensure that we can prevent this sort of persecution and inequality that the Jewish population underwent in Europe during the 1940’s. This experience had inspired and empowered us, the current generation to take appropriate action against hatred and promote justice, along with human rights. Furthermore, we learned how to compare our residential school’s history unit with the oppression of the First Nations, together with how that relates to other forms of cultural genocide. With the Tour for Humanity, we can be sure that the vision of Simon Wiesenthal will live on.

Student vs. Staff Volleyball Game

On Tuesday, December 20th fun was had by all watching and playing in the Student vs. Staff Volleyball Game during the lunch hour. It was an intense set of games between the boys/girls teams vs. Michael Cranny Staff. The staff were ruthless and came out on top undefeated against the students. Better luck next time...

Grade 7 Historical Wax Museum

The Grade 7 team at M.C.E.S. would like to thank everyone who visited the Historical Wax Museum performance. It was a huge success! We greatly appreciated the maturity and respect that our student visitors demonstrated. The level of engagement from the students was made clear by the critical questions they asked. Also, thanks to all the staff and teachers who took time out of their busy class schedules to come visit the Wax Museum. The Grade 7 students had been working very hard for over a month on this, and though it was quite challenging we are VERY proud of the end result.

Winter has arrived and Oh the Fun!

According to TIME magazine, research shows that the average person spends 87 percent of their time in enclosed buildings and 6 percent of their time in enclosed vehicles. That’s a total of 93 percent of your life spent inside. So at Michael Cranny ES, we believe everyone needs to get more fresh air by spending more time outdoors – and there are many benefits you’ll receive by doing this, above and beyond the fresh air. The benefits are so great that you should strive to get outdoors virtually every day – even if it’s winter and the temperatures are low. Some of the benefits include boosting creativity and focus and improving your mood and self esteem. So come prepared to BE OUTSIDE!
All our students will be expected to be outside before, during and after school in all weather conditions (i.e., rain or shine, snow or heat).  Students need to come to school dressed to play outside during recesses.  Boots (for rain or snow), rain jackets, hats, mitts, scarves and snow pants will help make recess an enjoyable time.  It is advisable for children to keep extra pants and socks at school in case they get wet. To avoid adding to our clothing collection in the Lost and Found Bin, please be sure to label all articles of clothing.
